Edmonds: Senior project is out: Edmonds School District high-schoolers will no longer have to complete a senior project to graduate. School board members June 10 agreed with a Culminating Project Committee recommendation to end the requirement following the Legislature’s decision to remove it as a state graduation requirement starting next year.
A survey was taken in May of nearly 4,000 district parents, students and staff. “A common theme among many of the written comments was a sense of stress felt by students, families and some staff,” Assistant Superintendent Patrick Murphy said.
Committee members also noted future graduates already face more graduation requirements, such as passing a science exam.
Lynnwood: Fireworks ban to start in 2015: The Lynnwood City Council has voted to ban fireworks in town starting in 2015.
The vote June 16 was 4-3, council Vice President Sid Roberts said.
Fireworks in Lynnwood will be allowed this Fourth of July from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
At least seven other cities in Snohomish County have banned personal fireworks, including Everett and most of south county.

Stanwood: Woman wins $50,000: A scratch ticket purchased at Bob’s Market &Deli in Stanwood landed one woman an unexpected $50,000.
The woman told lottery officials she was standing in the market when she got a call that she’d won $50 with a second-chance drawing from an earlier lottery game. She used some of the money to buy a Red Hot Crossword Scratch ticket that ended up netting her $50,000.
The woman, reportedly a long-time Camano Island resident, declined to be named or interviewed. She did, however, explain her first intended purchase to people when she picked up her prize on June 4, according to a Washington Lottery press release.
She’s getting a new pair of shoes.
