SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Pacific Little League baseball team saved one of its best games for last.
In their final game of pool play, the All-Stars from Lynnwood, Edmonds and unincorporated Snohomish County defeated Wyoming 13-3 in four innings Tuesday night in a Little League World Series baseball Northwest regional game at Al Houghton Stadium.
Pacific, which has clinched the No. 1 seed in pool play, takes on the No. 4 seed in a 6 p.m. semfinal game Thursday.
“It was nice to come out of that one with a victory, secure the No. 1 seed and come out of pool play strong,” Pacific manager Robley Corsi, Jr., said. “We’re right where we want to be. We’ve been fortunate to scratch a few across and take advantage of some (opportunities).”
Pacific wasted no time on Tuesday, scoring three runs in the first inning and five in the second. The team added five more in the fourth to end the game because of a 10-run mercy rule. Mason Vaughn had two hits and three RBI for Pacific and Read Carr added two hits and two RBI.
Pacific faces either Alaska or Montana in Thursday’s semifinal. Pacific defeated Montana 10-4 earlier in the tournament, but have not played Alaska.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter for us,” Corsi said. “We just want to go and play baseball. Whoever goes out there we’re going to battle and see what we can do.”
Pacific has outscored its opponents 38-11 in its four games in the Northwest regional.
“This is exactly what we came down here to do,” Corsi said. “Win all four. And hopefully we’ll have that momentum take us through all the way.”
Wyoming remains winless at the regional tournament. It came into Tuesday night’s game 0-2 after losing 2-1 to Alaska earlier in the day in a makeup game from a contest that was postponed on Sunday due to inclement weather. Wyoming faces Idaho, the other winless team in the pool, Wednesday.
