ARLINGTON — An outdoor smoking ban is set to take effect here by the end of the month.
The Arlington City Council approved the ban unanimously Monday night. Two people spoke in favor of the ban at the council meeting, and no one spoke against it.
Arlington’s ordinance bans smoking, chewing tobacco and electronic cigarettes at all city parks and trails.
People caught smoking or chewing tobacco in a park or on a trail could be fined up to $1,000 or get a maximum of 90 days in jail, according to the ordinance.
At least five other Snohomish County cities have banned smoking in parks: Marysville, Lake Stevens, Bothell, Sultan and Lynnwood.
