NEW YORK — Former Warriors point guard Tim Hardaway and former Phoenix Suns standout Kevin Johnson were among 12 finalists announced Saturday for election into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Hardaway became a finalist for the third consecutive year. He averaged 19.8 points and 9.3 assists in five-plus seasons for the Warriors before being traded to Miami and finished his career a five-time All-Star.
Johnson, who is now the mayor of Sacramento, spent 12 of his 13 seasons as point guard for the Suns. He averaged 17.9 points and 9.1 assists for his NBA career. Johnson averaged 14.0 points and 4.4 assists in four seasons at Cal.
The Hall of Fame Class will be announced April 6.
The other player finalists this year were Lisa Leslie, Dikembe Mutombo, Spencer Haywood and Jo Jo White, who played 1 1/2 seasons late in his career with the Warriors.
Coaches John Calipari, Bill Fitch, Bo Ryan, Robert Hughes and Lita Andrews and referee Dick Bavetta rounded out the finalists.
