The Monroe School Board has scheduled a special meeting at 1 p.m. on Monday to discuss its goals and review its annual work plan.
The meeting is to be held at the district administration office, 200 E. Fremont St.

Beer and barbecue in Monroe: A new family-friendly taproom and barbecue restaurant is holding a grand-opening celebration at 4:30 on Thursday in Monroe.
Adam Miller is opening the Route 2 Taproom with 29 craft beers, ciders, nitros and wines. Jeff Dickinson is providing the food, including barbecue ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken and all the fixins, though his business, Hook &Ladder BBQ.
People can find the beer and barbecue at 19837 U.S. 2 in the Monroe Shopping Plaza near the Haggen Grocery Store.
