All good things must come to an end.
It is with some sadness that I announce that after 12 years I am stepping aside as the Herald’s Everett Silvertips beat reporter. I am taking over our Seattle professional sports beat, bringing to an end what’s been the most fulfilling 12-year stint of my working life.
Leaving the Tips beat isn’t easy because this is my baby. I was hired in 2003 specifically to cover the new junior hockey team in Everett, and I feel a certain ownership of the beat. I was able to learn and grow right alongside the team, and chronicling the unprecedented 2003-04 expansion season was the most magical experience of my professional career. Covering the Tips has been an absolute blast, and I’m so grateful I was given the opportunity.
I want to thank everyone who’s been involved with the Silvertips organization during these first 12 seasons, including the fans. It’s been an honor and a privilege working with you all, and hopefully I was able to provide the type of coverage people expected.
I’m super excited about my new position, and I’m looking forward to the new challenges. But the Silvertips will forever hold a place in my heart and mind. Good luck to the organization, and when the time comes to write the occasional column on the Tips I’ll see you again at Xfinity.
