Regarding John Burbank’s column, “State income tax would fix school funding and much more”: Oh, please! A state income tax would do nothing to fund schools, any more than the Washington state Lottery has, as it was promised. And failed. Yes, it might help fund schools for the first 20 minutes after inception, then the politicians would get their hands on it — as always — and divert it to some other pet fund or project. This state has such a long and sordid history of liberal tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend that the only thing a state income tax would do is add more taxes to an already grossly overtaxed state — all on the backs of the working class. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Stop spending money we don’t have on things we don’t need —just like the working folks have to do — and a surplus will somehow “magically” appear.
