EVERETT — Renowned Italian glass artist and master glass maker Lino Tagliapietra will be at work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 through 11 in the glass studio at the Schack Art Center.
Located at 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett, the Schack is inviting the public to observe Tagliapietra blowing glass. Admission is free.
Born on the island of Murano, Italy, Tagliapietra started from a very young age working in the island’s glass furnaces and factories.
Since his early 20s he has been regarded as a maestro (master glass blower) and was granted that title at a time when he worked for some of the most prestigious glassworks companies in Murano.
Seattle glass artist John Kiley, who worked for Tagliapietra for many years, told Schack staff that, “It is often said that Lino is the best glass blower in the world. This is not an exaggeration. Watching him work is literally a chance to see history in the making …. he found his destiny 70 years ago at the age of 11, in a factory system that no longer exists. There will never be another Lino.”
Tagliapietra’s pieces are among the collections in some of the most prestigious museums and galleries in the world.
This event is sponsored in part by the Traver Gallery of Seattle.
