A strong El Nino situation is apparently developing in the Pacific Ocean this year, warming water along our western shoreline from Alaska to Mexico.
This is not good for coldwater fisheries and a recent publication by the Alaska seafood industry says, “The winners look to be the sportfishing community in southern California. They’ve had phenomenal fishing for a year and a half now on warmwater species such as bluefin tuna, yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi, and the occasional marlin. It’s like having a Baja fishery right out the door of Los Angeles and San Diego. That may continue or even increase, and it will likely spread up the coast of California.”
