Return of the weekly poll and Everett Silvertips practice notes

The Everett Silvertips returned to practice today following Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Vancouver.

It is a busy week for the Tips, who will leave Tuesday for Wednesday night’s game at Kelowna. The defending WHL champion Rockets come to Xfinity Arena Friday afternoon for a special New Year’s Day faceoff at 2. Everett concludes the week at Kamloops on Saturday.

Riley Sutter, Spencer Gerth and Jaeger White all wore red no-contact jerseys, but all three players participated fully in Monday’s practice. Defenseman Tristen Pfeifer suffered an apparent shoulder injury when he crashed hard into the boards during a drill. He later exited the locker room with his right arm in a sling.

There have been a host of trades coming down in recent days following the end of the Christmas break transaction moratorium on Dec. 26. The Red Deer Rebels, the Memorial Cup hosts, are looking to load up as they’ve already acquired NHL first-round pick Jake DeBrusk from Swift Current and the rights to Taden Rattie from Portland.

The Tips have already made one big move in acquiring Brycen Martin at the beginning of December from Saskatoon. The deal for White from Lethbridge came through about two weeks ago. White played in his first three games, but has been scratched in Everett’s last three games.

Last year the Tips picked up Nikita Scherbak well before the deadline as Everett looked for scoring help. No doubt the Tips could use some additional scoring help this year as well, but I’m not sure GM Garry Davidson wants to completely mortgage the future. Feel free to vote below if you believe the Tips are done dealing or not.
