Reading the article, “Coal bankruptcies may leave taxpayers paying for clean up,” an old Tennessee Ernie Ford refrain pounded through my head. “Sixteen tons, whaddya get?” As the U.S. taxpayers descend into that deep, dark mine to pay the debts of a “rigged economy.” Will St. Peter’s call be put on hold as Tennessee Ernie Ford sang “I can’t go.” “I owe my soul to the company store.”
