SPOKANE — Avista says natural gas is so abundant and cheap it no longer pays to offer energy efficiency programs.
The Spokane utility is asking regulators in Washington and Idaho to allow it to stop offering rebates for high efficiency natural gas furnaces and water heaters and for insulation in homes heated with natural gas.
Incentives and rebates for electric energy efficiency would continue.
Avista serves 360,000 natural gas customers in Eastern Washington and northern Idaho.
