We asked readers to tell us what they love about their moms. Kids from 17 to well over 70 entered The Herald’s Mother’s Day contest. The winner received a $100 gift card to Renee’s Contemporary Clothing in Everett. But there were many other heartfelt stories. You can find all of them here.
Daughter: Joan Bushnell, Lake Stevens
Mother: Christine McLean, Yakima
My mother, Christine, is the most wonderful mom of all. She raised eight children, five girls and three boys. We grew up spending many hours playing games, reading and just being together. My dad worked two jobs to support us, and mom stayed home to take care of us. She read to us, taught us, bandaged our “owies” and just loved on us.
My mom is now 89 years old and has end-stage heart disease. Two and a half years ago she was given only a few months to live. We all rallied around her and began staying with her every night, taking turns. We are taking care of her as she did for us.
We don’t know how much more time this Godly woman has on this Earth, but we are all grateful for the extra time we have been given with her.
