Fair, food, music, beach walk and more weekend fun

Go to the fair: The Evergreen State Fair has already begun and runs through Labor Day. You’ll find all the good stuff you expect at a fair: Food, animals, rides, contests, concerts and a lot more. Find everything you need to know, including best bets, in our guide here; see more stories on our fair page; and share your photos in our reader galleries.

Savor your food: Slow food, which emphasizes regional cuisine over mass-produced burgers, will come center stage on Saturday and Sunday at the Stanwood-Camano Community Fairgrounds.

You can shop for local food at a farmers market, hear speakers and visit chef demonstrations. There will also be live music and crafts for sale. Read more in our story here.

Hear some music There are a lot of great shows coming up. Our What Radio blog has some very affordable ideas here. Some bigger name acts will also be in the area, including Foreigner on Saturday. Tickets are sold out, but it’s possible a few will be available at the last minute. The Hometown Hootenanny puts on its Singers Showdown on Saturday in Everett. Bring your dog: Everett’s Mutt Strut is Saturday at Langus Riverfront Park. This is one of those free events that can mean fun for every member of the family — whether they are two- or four-legged. The Mutt Strut means a mile walk for your doggie and you and the kids, along with other activities. Read more (and look at a gallery of past events) in our story here.

Meet authors: Stroll the Everett Marina Boardwalk on Sunday afternoon and you can shop for books and meet more than 25 authors who will be signing and selling their works. The Waterfront Book Festival goes on from noon to 4 p.m. near the Everett Farmers Market. Find out more in our story here.

Explore the beach at night: A Moonlight Beach Adventure is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at Marina Beach, 498 Admiral Way S., Edmonds. Visitors will participate in an interpretive program and see and touch live creatures. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Call Edmonds Parks &Recreation, 425-771-0230, for more information.

See the Tips: The Silvertips started practice this week. They’ll continue training all weekend, concluding with the annual Green vs. Grey game on Sunday afternoon. All sessions take place at the Comcast Community Ice Rink and are open free to the public. Take a look at the schedule here and read our story here.

See art: The Three Day Summer Art Studio Tour is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The self-guided tour is free and features 24 artists at 18 studios from Greenbank to Oak Harbor. Most artists will be demonstrating during the tour. A color brochure with map and artist information is available here. Printed brochures with map are available at most art galleries in Island, Snohomish and Skagit counties; at the Visitor Center in Coupeville, 905 NW Alexander St.; and the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville,15 NW Birch St.

See even more art: Historic East Stanwood’s third annual Art Walk is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday with businesses and restaurants throughout east Stanwood featuring local artists’ original work along with music and appetizers. Passports are handed to you at the first business you visit; fill out your passport and qualify for a special prize drawing.

Look up: The Flying Heritage Collection will commemorate the Battle of Britain at this Saturday’s Fly Day event in Everett. The Battle of Britain was the first major war campaign fought entirely by air forces in the summer and fall of 1940. Two British fighters have been credited for winning the Battle of Britain: the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane. A version of each will take to the skies between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday as part of the free Fly Days series this summer. Read more in our story here.

Dream and drool: The Dream Kitchen Tour on Saturday will showcase six stunning kitchens on Whidbey Island. The tour is more than a parade of fancy stoves and fridges. “We select kitchens that reflect the passions and lifestyles of their owners,” said Bonnie Abney, tour chairwoman. Blow a bubble: Bubble Fest is Friday through Saturday in Seattle. The event showcases activities that include bubble arts and crafts, boomerang building, bubble machines, bubble blowing, and a 20-foot inflatable Foam Pit, full of fluffy, bubbly, kid-friendly foam. If you prefer, you can stay dry with a relaxing kayak ride around the dinosaurs in the newly remodeled ponds or you can learn the science behind all things bubbly. The event is under the Pacific Science Center arches, near the Space Needle. Click here to learn more.

Go to the circus: The Ringley Bros. are in Everett for several shows from Friday to Sunday. If you arrive an hour early, you’ll be treated to an special extra show. Read all about it in our story here.

Catch a game: The AquaSox play their final home games of the season Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Events are planned throughout the weekend to celebrate the end of the season. Find out more here.
