If you find yourself a fan of the Discovery Channel show “Gold Rush,” you might want to inspect the world of shiny things a little closer by attending the Gold, Gem and Mineral Show put on by the Washington Prospectors Mining Association.
This year’s show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 and 26 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe. Admission is $5 general; free for those 13 and under.
The Gold, Gem and Mineral Show will present a variety of prospecting subjects and will include demonstrations on panning.
Also at the show will be lots of dealers specializing in prospecting equipment and new prospecting products along with sign-ups for trips and clubs.
The Washington Prospectors Mining Association is the largest nonprofit mining association in the state of Washington.
The association promotes and supports prospecting and mining for weekend, part-time and small-scale miners and prospectors, according to their website.
Guests to the gold and gem show can learn more about becoming WPMA members to keep informed on workshops and outings to gold producing areas around Washington state.
Members can gain access to more than 1,665 acres of association claims and some specific members claims throughout the states of Washington, Oregon and California, with the prospect of keeping all the gold they find, according to the website.
