This is the kind of performance that stretches the envelope.
As Edmonds Community College music department Chairman John Sanders describes, it’s a “one of a kind improvisational” experience.
“Push + Pull” features students doing art and performing music, all that accompanied by a professional dance company.
The piece is composed by Edmonds Community College music and visual arts faculty with choreography by Karin Stevens Dance Company.
“‘Push + Pull’ is based on loose structures and has no parameters, offering the audience a unique perspective of an authentic multi-arts collaboration,” Sanders said.
Musicians, painters and dancers during the piece will respond to five different movements: Attractor, Squeeze, Tug, Newton’s Cradle and Hoist. The creators hope that in the end, the audience has experienced an innovative sensation.
Sanders has written two compositions for the work: “Rubber Band” and “Twelve by Two,” performed by Edmonds Community College music students.
“Push + Pull” is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Edmonds Community College Black Box Theatre, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. This event is free but a $7 donation is suggested.
