50 years ago (1962)
Fire District 22 was the new fire district in the Getchell area. Members of the squad included Bruce Bunkelman, chief; Russell Hunter, assistant chief; Dick Haaland, fireman and district commissioner; and Bill Thompson, fireman. The district had $1,000 in equipment and hoped to built a $3,000 fire hall next year.
Workmen were preparing forms for the footings on Meadowdale High School, north of Lynnwood. The $2 million building was being rushed to completion in an effort to have it ready for use by September. It would be the Edmonds School District’s third high school.
25 years ago (1987)
The Everett Symphony Orchestra was opening its 1987-88 season tomorrow evening at the Everett Civic Auditorium. Music Director/Conductor Paul-Elliot Cobbs, in his fourth season, was to conduct the orchestra in a program of music by Mozart, Franz von Suppe and Modest Mussorgsky.
The night sky above Lynnwood turned a luminescent orange last night as an arson fire ravaged one of the city’s oldest businesses. Acting Lt. Bruce Forbes of the Lynnwood Fire Department said they didn’t get many fires anymore like the blaze that destroyed part of the Drive-in Swamp Shop at 17325 Highway 99.
