50 years ago (1962)
The local reaction to President Kennedy’s stand on the Cuban situation was basically favorable. Supporting the president’s actions were Mayor George Gebert, Rodney Berg, Gordon Hall, the Rev. Ed Johnson, Harold Walsh, Dave Beck and Cecil Cole.
Granite Falls Lions Club members put up a road sign this week on Highway 1A (now Highway 9) about two miles north of the B&M Shopping Center which called Granite Falls the gateway to a great recreational area. Lions members included
Bob Taylor, Joe Meehling, John Allender, Ralph Holm, Mike Kerrick, Ed Rathke, Jim Sweet and Bob Bergan.
25 years ago (1987)
Vehicles driving I-5 between Everett and Marysville were socked in by fog. When the fog burned off there was sunshine.
Herald Columnist Mike Henderson, fearing that 70-degree weather might soon end, headed off for a solitary picnic on the most peaceful knoll in the county. He was talking about the Little White Church on the Hill just north of Silvana. It was appropriately named “Peace” Lutheran Church.
