50 years ago (1952)
Home on leave from the United States Army Military Academy at West Point was Cadet William C. Juchau, son of Mrs. Velma Wells, 3031 Kromer Ave. He would next report to Camp buckner, West Point, N.Y., for tactical summer training to begin his second year at the academy.
The Red Barn Building, a Lynnwood landmark since World War II, was to be demolished to make way for a modern new theater to be erected on the site. It as originally a feed store.
25 years ago (1987)
One of the largest and most powerful warships ever built, the USS Nimitz steamed into the Strait of Juan de Fuca for the first time this morning en route to making Northwest waters its home. Its arrival was a tangible demonstration of the Navy’s intent to make Puget Sound and Everett its new home port. The Nimitz was on its way to Bremerton.
Mountlake Terrace’s blue and green municipal logo reached a towering height when painters put the finishing touches on a 2.5-million-gallon water tower. The city’s name was spelled out in letters 3½ feet high. The logo represented a mountain, a lake and a terrace.
