Cathy Ramstad was named Miss Everett in the colorful Everett Chamber of Commerce pageant. First runner-up in the contest Judy Ashcraft. Second runner-up was Linda Vik. The Miss congeniality title went to Marlynn Kaysner.
Winners of the Snohomish County Peace Officers Association’s annual teenage saf-driving contest were Peggy Simmermacher, Marilyn Rogers, Lyle Poolman, Rosemary Raines, Marc Schlosser, Warren Peacor and Penny Hansen.
25 years ago (1987)
After holding three meets at Everett Memorial Stadium this spring, University of Washington men’s track Coach Ken Shannon said Everett officials should bid for the state high school meet. Shannon, who lived in Snohomish, said that on more than one occasion he had raised the subject of hosting the meets with Everett Athletic Director Ernie Dire.
Bill Sharp, Arlington boys’ basketball coach, was retiring at the end of the school year after more than 30 years of teaching and coaching. He played guard at the University of Wyoming and in the 1950s was one of the top 10 scorers in the National Industrial Basketball League, when the NBA was in its infant stages.
