Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Skagit Opera presents Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amour, The Elixir of Love” for one weekend.
This early 19th century opera, a favorite in the classical repertoire, is a lively love story complete with a fair maiden, a desperate lover, a wicked sergeant and a snake-oil salesman.
This is the opera that includes the famous “Una Furtiva Lagrima” aria in the second act, sung by the tenor. It’s a wonderful, lush, beautiful piece that will melt your heart.
Soprano Christina Kowalski stars as Adina, Marcus Shelton as Nemorino and Yu Seok Oh as Belcore. Megan Chenovick sings the role of Giannetta.
The same production team that brought us “Tosca” a few months ago returns: stage director Erich Parce, music director Jonathan Pasternak and Mitchell Kahn as general director.
The opera is sung in Italian with English supertitles.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 tonight and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at McIntyre Hall, 2501 E. College Way, Mount Vernon.
Performance tickets are $25 to $59, at www.mcintyrehall.org or 360-416-7727. Save $3 by paying with cash or check at the box office.
A special gala follows the opening night performance. Gala admission is $40 each or two for $65, and does not include the cost of the performance ticket.
