Surf, sand and sun (no guarantees here) await across from Everett’s waterfront. The ferries will start running Sunday, the official opening of Jetty Island Days, which runs through Sept. 3.

On opening day the Pirates of Puget Sound will lead the charge for the flag raising at 11:30 a.m., then demonstrate their pirating skills and conduct a treasure hunt. Hint: The booty is buried in the Jetty Island sand.

Catch the free ferry at the 10th Street Boat Launch for the short ride. The ferry runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8:50 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 6:50 p.m. Sundays.

Here’s the drill: You pick up boarding passes at the boat launch kiosk — first come, first serve — for the next available boat. Everett residents, with proof of residency, may reserve passes by calling 425-257-8304.

Groups of eight or more, residents or not, may reserve space at least one week ahead. Return passes are available on the island.

Parking is free Mondays through Thursdays, and $3 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Check the city of Everett website,, for ranger-led programs, activities, special cruises with a naturalist and festivals on the island throughout the summer.
