Adopt: Pets seek ‘Home for the Holidays’

A Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Center sets up today at Mill Creek Town Center, 15402 Main St., and continues weekends through Dec. 8.

Paddywack pet supply store is the primary sponsor and is working with volunteers from the Community Cat Coalition and FurKidz 911 to coordinate activities. Multiple nonprofit pet rescue groups will participate. At last year’s Mill Creek adoption center, more than 70 dogs and cats found their “forever homes.”

In addition, Artis Photography offers Santa photos for families and pets. A portion of the photo proceeds go to nonprofit pet rescue.

Adoption center hours are 4-8 p.m. Fridays (except 12-8 p.m. Nov. 29), and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Donate: Motorcycle group gathering toys

The Goldwing Touring Association Chapter C’s annual toy drive to benefit Christmas House runs through Dec. 13. Donations of stuffed animals and other toys can be dropped off at Everett Powersports, 215 SW Everett Mall Way, Everett. Toys must be new or like-new. Pick-up service available.

Quilt: Blankets go to disaster areas

Edmonds Lutheran Church has a quilting group that meets at 10 a.m. each Tuesday to sew and tie off quilts used for relief and charitable causes. The quilts are sent off to Lutheran World Relief and Disaster Response, which takes them and quilts from other church groups and sends them to disaster areas and other places of need, like homeless shelters and orphanages. World Relief recently sent 91,000 quilts to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

Everyone is welcome at the Edmonds quilt group, from beginners to masters. The church is at 23525 84th Ave. W., Edmonds.

Rock: Toy donation is concert admission

The Jones Family Christmas Show to benefit Toys for Tots is set for 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at Old Village Pub, 7500 196th St., Lynnwood. Admission is one new, unwrapped toy, or a $10 donation. The blues concert features the Stacy Jones Band, Chester Dennis Jones Band, and special guest Dennis Jones Band.

Edmonds City Council seeks applicants for a variety of openings on boards and commissions, including the Economic Development Commission (deadline 4:30 p.m. Nov. 26), Sister City Commission, Cemetery Board, Architectural Design Board (landscape architect position), and Planning Board (alternate).

Learn: Microsoft IT Academy at libraries

Microsoft’s IT Academy online training is now available free through local libraries, thanks to a partnership between the company and the Washington State Library.

The program offers three levels of technology courses: basic digital literacy proficiency, Microsoft Office training, and advanced skills for IT professionals. A Microsoft Account is required.

Donate: Cans for Cocoon House

The Allen family, of Everett, is holding a Cans For Christmas metal recycling drive to benefit Cocoon House. Donate aluminum cans and other metals through Dec. 31. All proceeds go to the Everett-based shelter for homeless and at-risk youth.

To donate, contact Catherine Allen at 425-760-5037. Or drop of donations directly at ACE Metal Co., 11110 Mukilteo Speedway in Mukilteo, and mention “Cans For Christmas.”

ACE accepts aluminum, brass, copper, lead, steel, stainless steel, titanium, copper and aluminum wire, electrical wire, window extrusion, copper pipes, radiators, condensers, stainless steel appliances and kitchen fixtures, steel structures and appliances, and most other scrap metals.
