EVERETT — A homeless man was jailed late Monday after he allegedly kicked another person so hard that doctors fear he caused a fatal head injury.
The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. in the 3600 block of Smith Avenue, a place in Everett that has become notorious for problems connected to homelessness, drug abuse and street crime.
Witnesses told Everett police that the suspect, 41, kicked a man in the head while he was on the ground. The victim stood up, walked to a nearby fence and collapsed.
Doctors later told police the victim was bleeding in the brain, had been placed on life support and was not expected to survive, according to papers filed in Everett District Court.
The suspect, who reportedly stands 6 foot 3 and weighs 245 pounds, initially told police that he had only touched the man in the head once, with his ankle.
“He also stated that (the victim) has verbally told him to kick him in the head in the past and that tonight … telepathically told him to kick him in the head,” police wrote.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett for investigation of first-degree assault.
