EVERETT — The Everett Community College program College in the High School has earned accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.
The program enables high school students to earn college credit simultaneously with high school credit for advanced courses.
The NACEP accreditation validates the quality of college courses offered in participating high schools.
“We are very proud to recognize these institutions for their commitment to concurrent enrollment program excellence,” said NACEP Accreditation Commission Chairwoman Jaclyn Dummond, manager of school partnerships at the University of Southern Indiana.
EvCC was one of 11 colleges and universities nationwide to receive the accreditation.
This year, EvCC’s College in the High School was offered at 30 secondary schools in Snohomish County, and 2,431 students have earned college credit to date.
“Students stay on their high school campus and get the full high school experience but they also get a chance to experience college-level work in a familiar environment,” said Karen Landry, EvCC director of College in High School and continuing education opportunities.
Courses in the program often are required freshman year at state community colleges and universities. They are taught by high school teachers who work closely with EvCC faculty members to ensure their classes are equal to the rigor of college level courses.
