FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Firefighters in Forest Grove, Ore., have rescued an 18-year-old Pacific University freshman who got herself stranded in a large redwood tree.
The Oregonian reported that Forest Grove Fire &Rescue spokesman Dave Nemeyer says campus security called for help about 5 p.m. Tuesday when the student couldn’t climb down from a tree near the library. She was stuck about 20 feet up.
The unidentified student reportedly told Fire Chief Michael Kinkade that she climbs trees as a hobby and usually gets down without help. A crew with a 24-foot ladder soon had her back on the ground.
Nemeyer says his agency’s fire crews have been called out in the past for a pet parrot in a tree and more recently for a 12-year-old child. In his words, “that’s usually around the age range we’re dealing with on these calls.”
Forest Grove is west of Portland.
