Help aging parents
The Mariner Library with Brookdale Senior Living offers a three-part series for adults with aging parents at noon Tuesdays, starting this week. Registration is required. Topics are “Helping Aging Parents,” “Family Table Conversations” and “Medicaid Solutions.” Seats are still available.

Arlington book sale
The Friends of the Arlington Library hold a book and bake sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave. Make a purchase and be entered to win a fall gift basket. Proceeds support library programs.

Next community action event is Saturday
The Snohomish County NAACP sponsors the next ALLIED event, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the gym at Jackson High School, 1508 136th St. SE, Mill Creek. ALLIED stands for Alliance of Leaders Leveraging Involvement to Eradicate Discrimination. This month’s event will focus on creating action groups centered on local civil and human rights.

Diversity talk
Speaker Anu Taranath leads a discussion about diversity from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave., as part of the senior center’s Creative Age Festival. “When we speak about diversity, what are we actually speaking about?”
Cost is $20, $15 for Edmonds Senior Center members.

Outdoor skills for youth
Youngsters can learn about firearms, archery and fishing at a free event scheduled Sept. 23 at Camp Pigott. It’s set to last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of National Hunting & Fishing Day. The address is 24225 Woods Creek Road, Snohomish. Sponsors include the state Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians.
The event includes free lunch, giveaway bags and prizes.
Advance registration is encouraged for participants younger than 18.

Arts Commission openings in Lake Stevens
Volunteers are needed to fill two vacancies on the Lake Stevens Arts Commission. The spots are open to those in city limits or the urban growth area. The commission advises city leaders and staff on visual, performance, literary, historic and cultural matters. The term is four years, and the group meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m.
Applications are available at City Hall, 1812 Main St. They can be submitted by email or to City Hall. The applications remain open until the spots are filled.
