“A Midsummer’s Ice Cream,” an annual event sponsored by the Emmaus Community and hosted by Trinity Lutheran College, will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the college’s downtown Everett campus.
The ice cream social is open to all, but especially welcomes very low-income families and people who are homeless. The Trinity Lutheran College Commons is at 2802 Wetmore Ave.
There will be free ice cream sundaes, locally produced root beer and live music.
The Emmaus Community is an Everett-based Christian lay group that works to bring people together and help those in need. The group sponsors the annual “Socktoberfest” and “Rides of March,” seasonal celebrations at the college that also help homeless people.
Travel challenges: With U.S. 2 closed east of Stevens Pass because of a wildfire, the state Department of Transportation expects to see many more vehicles traveling over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 this weekend.
The additional traffic there could be as bad as a Memorial weekend day, the agency says.
Other highways east of the passes are closed because of fires as well.
