GIG HARBOR — A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a Gig Harbor-area homeowner has shot and wounded a stranger who reportedly was trying to enter the man’s house without permission.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital Thursday evening. His condition was not known.
The News Tribune reported that the homeowner was not arrested.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the homeowner told deputies a man drove up and got out of a black pickup and started heading for the man’s front door. Troyer says the homeowner armed himself with a handgun and went outside to ask the man what he wanted. The spokesman says the stranger ignored the resident’s warnings and kept heading toward the house occupied by the homeowner’s wife and teenage children.
Troyer says the homeowner shot the man once in the back as he walked inside the house. The resident then called 911.
