TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Eastbound lanes on a section of the main travel route through south-central Idaho were closed Thursday following a collision involving a tractor-trailer carrying hazardous materials.
Authorities say eastbound lanes between Twin Falls and Burley were closed while a hazardous material team cleaned up chemicals from the Wednesday evening crash.
Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall tells The Times-News that a tanker carrying 46,000 pounds of sodium aluminate solution blew a tire and was rear-ended by a another tractor-trailer hauling onions.
McFall says the tanker appeared not to have been compromised after tumbling off the road but a subsequent check found a leak.
The truck hauling onions caught fire and the driver was flown to a hospital to be treated for burns.
Police say area residents aren’t in danger.
