LAKE STEVENS — An 8-foot alligator died in a house fire early Friday in Lake Stevens.
Firefighters responded to a home on fire around 2:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of Vernon Road. Crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames, with electrical wires down on the ground, according to Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue.
All of the residents escaped.
“The occupants notified crews of an 8 foot alligator that may have escaped the fire, but as crews extinguished the fire it was discovered the reptile did not survive,” the fire department posted.
Firefighters took a defensive approach, to keep the flames from spreading. Firefighters from Everett, Marysville, Getchell, Snohomish and South County Fire responded, along with Lake Stevens police and the local chapter of the Red Cross.
The house is a complete loss.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause.
