EVERETT — A celebration of life to honor Dr. Dean Brooks, who appeared in the film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Everett Golf &Country Club.
Brooks, 96, died May 30 in Salem, Ore. He previously lived more than 20 years in Everett. Brooks’ daughter, India Civey, lives here.
A psychiatrist, Brooks was a longtime superintendent of the Oregon State Hospital, where the 1975 movie based on the Ken Kesey novel was filmed. He retired in 1981, but remained involved in mental health issues. He served on the Western State Hospital advisory board and on the board of Compass Health in Everett.
In the film, Brooks appeared as the character “Dr. Spivey” with Jack Nicholson, who starred as patient R.P. McMurphy.
Civey said friends who knew Brooks in Everett are welcome at Thursday’s memorial. The Everett Golf &Country Club is at 1500 52nd St. SE.
