LAKE STEVENS — Local firefighters and nursing students visited Lake Stevens-area elementary schools throughout February to talk to kids about the dangers of poisons.
The program was coordinated by Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens and Everett Community College.
National Poison Prevention Week is planned this year starting March 17.
The visits to Lake Stevens schools focused on teaching the children about common poisons, what happens when someone is poisoned and what to do if something seems wrong, fire district public educator Jennye Cooper said.
Most accidental poisonings of young children are from common household products, she said.
