CAMANO ISLAND — A wanted man in a beheading death on Camano Island is possibly driving a silver car, rather than a green Mitsubishi Montero, the Island County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Sheriff Mark Brown had announced deputies were looking for Jacob Gonzales, 34, as a person of interest in the killing of Katherine Cunningham, 26, on the south end of the island.
Cunningham’s body was found around 2:30 p.m. Saturday on undeveloped land off Tamarack Lane, near a makeshift bunker that was dug out in a hillside. The bunker was stocked with guns, ammunition and supplies. Gonzales had lived in a trailer on the property. He was gone, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives said Thursday they found a green 1990 Mitsubishi Montero associated with Gonzales, and learned it no longer belonged to him. Tips have suggested Gonzales might have fled in a silver compact car. No better description was available.
He might be headed for central or southern California. If seen, call 911. Or contact detective Ed Wallace at 360-679-9567.
