LYNNWOOD — One person died and two others were seriously injured in a fire that damaged four townhouse units on Christmas Eve, fire officials said.
The fire at the Lynnwood Townhomes at 196th Street SW also displaced more than 20 residents from undamaged units because power to the buildings was shut off, South Snohomish County Fire spokesperson Shawneri Guzman said.
The American Red Cross is providing help for those residents, she added.
“The fact that it’s Christmas Eve makes this especially hard for the people who live here but also for our firefighters,” Guzman said. “It’s not something you want to happen any day of the year, but it’s even harder around the holidays.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters started receiving reports of smoke, and later flames, coming from the townhouses around 10:50 a.m. Saturday
Guzman said first responders were not immediately able to determine the age or gender of the person who died. One adult and one child were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. Their condition was not known as of 1:15 p.m., Guzman said.
This is the second fatal fire in the complex in the last four years, Guzman said. In 2019, another fire there killed two children.
The cause of the 2019 blaze was deemed undetermined, Guzman said.
