50 years ago (1964)
With wavy images reflected in quiet waters of the Port of Everett, fishing boats rested easy. Soon, however, the Western Maid, Port Defiance, Emblem and Reliance would be at work in southeastern Alaska. Some of Everett’s purse seiners were already in Alaska.
Normanna Lodge, Sons of Norway, was to dedicate their Lake Riley “retreat” tomorrow. The 52-acre hideaway was purchased in December and was now ready for use as a picnic area. Henry Carlson was chair of the recreation committee. Dean Hegge was chair of the board of directors.
25 years ago (1989)
Good intentions weren’t enough when it came to fawns. Everett veterinarian Doug Yearout was dealing with the ramifications of those good intentions: four fawns in the past week brought in by people who thought they were orphans. Most of the time they were not.
In her column, Judyrae Kruse mentioned Arlene B. Altes, of Everett, and her raspberry ribbon brownies. She also mentioned that Dorothy R. Morrill, of Arlington, hoped someone could share a recipe for a certain type of French toast soaked overnight in some sort of mixture of eggs, half and half and orange liqueur.
