50 years ago (1964)
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hasko were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house in their Lakewood home. Hosting the affair were their sons, Duane, Denny and David. The couple asked that gifts please be omitted.
The local National Guard unit, headquarters Second Battalion 161 Infantry, would conduct armored personnel carrier rides at the 14th St. fill tomorrow. The ride, for the public, would be given after the Fourth of July parade.
25 years ago (1989)
Allan May reflected on the zoo at Forest Park. It started in 1914 when the county game warden offered park superintendent Stanley Mount three deer, two coyotes and two pelicans. The zoo really grew with superintendents Oden Hall, his brother Walter E. Hall and Walter’s son John Hall. The star attraction was Rosie, an elephant from a circus. Today all that remained of the animals were the peacocks.
Keith Krassin was serenading traffic yesterday at 13th St. and Broadway. He said he didn’t know why he was out there and that he couldn’t even play the guitar. Originally from Everett, Krassin was up from Seattle visiting friends.
