50 years ago (1963)

Glen Shadduck, faculty chairman; Laurie Smith, finance chairman for parents, and Bill Priebe, associate chairman for the senior class, talked over finances for the party to be held at the Elks Club following Everett High School’s graduation exercises in June.

Hereth’s Thriftway in Marysville was having a three-day grand opening celebration starting tomorrow. The ribbon-cutting would be carried out by Mayor Jack Gardner and Washington State Dairy Princess Judy Aker. Stan Boreson would entertain and a presidential staff car would be on display.

25 years ago (1988)

Curbside trash separation, once acknowledged as a good idea but dismissed as a financial pipe dream, was about to get its first large-scale test in Snohomish County. Everett was beginning its varied program in two areas of the city that would involve about 1,600 households.

Blueprints for Spring was a spring home improvement show coming April 7-10 at the Everett Mall. Visitors could get advice from experts on home building and remodeling, look at new paint colors and wall paper, and check out ideas on landscaping. More than 40 exhibitors would be on hand.
