Thief takes off with car warming up in Spokane

SPOKANE — A woman who left her car idling to warm up Thursday morning in Spokane had it stolen.

Police say her son gave chase, and the stolen car crashed into a tree and the driver ran away.

Witnesses saw him drive off in another car that had been reported stolen Wednesday night. That car was later found.

Police have fingerprints and other evidence that has identified a suspect they are trying to find.

Police remind drivers not to leave their cars unoccupied while running to warm up because it creates and opportunity for thieves and puts the public in danger. Idling a car in Spokane could result in a $124 fine.
