EVERETT — The two men reportedly were arguing when they arrived at the small Lynnwood rambler early Thursday morning
Police allege they took their spat into the kitchen and, at some point, a Lake Stevens man, 35, picked up a kitchen knife.
A witness in a room nearby heard the other man say something to the nature of, “Do it! Go ahead and stab me!”
Lynnwood police believe that’s exactly what Leo E. Scott did. He was booked Thursday into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree murder.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined that the victim was stabbed once in the chest and the knife pierced his lungs and heart, according to court papers. The victim was identified Friday as Windell Vaughn, 32, of Lynnwood.
Scott is being held on $1 million bail.
Police were called to the home in the 5400 block of 204th Street SW shortly after midnight Thursday. They found the wounded man lying on the kitchen floor and unresponsive.
The witness who heard the suspect and victim arguing told detectives that he went to try to break up the fight, but was too late.
He said he tried to get the knife away from Scott and is not sure if he pulled it out of the victim or if it came out when they were struggling for control.
At that point, Scott allegedly said “words to the effect of ‘Don’t tell’” before riding off on a bicycle, according to a police report. He was arrested about a dozen blocks away in the 6000 block of 212th Street SW.
Scott and the victim were reported to have mutual friends who live at the house where the stabbing occurred and both paid frequent visits.
Thursday’s arrest was not Scott’s first brush with the law. He has adult felony convictions for possessing methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In 2010, he was accused of threatening a convenience store clerk in Everett. Police found him in a tree. Nearby they recovered a homemade “zip” gun loaded with a live round, court papers said.
