I’ll drink to that
Careful what you vote for: In just a few days, Washington state liquor consumers will be free of the tyranny of state-run liquor stores and will be able to buy booze at Safeway, Costco and other retail outlets, at much greater convenience (above).
Just keep reminding yourself of that convenience the next time you’re cooling your heels in the 12-items-or-less line while the clerk deals with an argumentative drunk who she’s refused to sell booze to.
What do you have in the no-tantrum section? A U.S. senator is asking airlines to reconsider a new policy that reserves aisle and window seats for elite passengers and those willing to pay extra. The airlines are being asked to make exceptions for parents flying with children, so kids don’t have to sit alone (Page A3).
Actually, this might be a great money-making opportunity for the airlines; now they can charge their elite passengers even more not to have to sit next to a crying child.
Still won’t do anything for your golf game: A hail storm in Louisville, Ky., damaged about 3,500 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles before they could be shipped to dealers. Because of the cosmetic damage, the SUVs can’t be sold as new (Page A3).
But Ford dealers will instead sell the SUVs to golfers persuading them the dimples cut down on wind resistance and improve fuel economy. They do have a tendency to slice to the right, though.
