Several days ago, after I received my ballot for the local school levy, I looked up my property tax rate on the County Assessor’s website and was shocked that my property taxes have increased over $1,000 and my assessed values have increased over $100,000. I am voting no, no, no on this year’s levy.
The teachers unions think more money is the answer. Really? In my day all it took to educate a child was a chalkboard, a book, a classroom and a teacher who was more interested in teaching a child than padding a paycheck. I am appalled that a majority of the levy money goes to fund a teacher’s salary — not buses, technology or maintenance. What is going on in this state? Our president passed a tax reform bill that resulted in a slight increase in my paycheck, but that increase has been swallowed up one-hundredfold when you counter that gain with increased property taxes, tolls that I have to pay to get to work every day.
I’m sick and tired of the Democrats in Olympia and the WEA thinking they have free reign over the money I’ve earned. It’s time to say no to school levies and time to vote our Democratic legislators out! They have got to stop the legal pilfering of our incomes.
