Thumbing for help

OMG, where are they? SNOPAC, one of two emergency dispatch centers in Snohomish County is reminding people that sending a text message to 911, rather than calling, won’t get help to you. Your message won’t be seen because the technology isn’t available.

And even if the text message got through, who’s going to know that ROTFHAHA means “rolling on the floor having a heart attack”?

And to think that I saw it on Colby: The Lorax, Dr. Seuss’ stumpy character who spoke for the trees, visited Lynnwood children Wednesday to promote a new animated movie based on the classic children’s book.

The Lorax was one of two Seuss characters visiting the county this week. The Gringrich, who famously spoke for the corporations, will be in Everett on Friday night. Not yet announced is a visit from the title character of Dr. Seuss’ “The 500 Flip-Flops of Bartholomew Romney.”

More kids’ lit: The author of “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” on which the recent movie “Hugo” was based, about a boy in Paris who rebuilds a mechanical doll, or automaton, helped find an expert to restore a 200-year-old automaton in Philadelphia.

Republicans disenchanted with the field of GOP presidential candidates immediately urged the spring-driven mechanical man to run for the nomination.
