VICTORIA, B.C. — Lynnwood’s Brady Clark led Team USA to an 8-3 victory over Denmark in Saturday night’s opening match at the 2013 World Men’s Curling Championships.
The Americans led 3-0 in the first end and never trailed against Denmark. The United States joined Switzerland, Scotland, Sweden and Canada at 1-0 on the first day of action in the 12-team tournament.
Clark is the skip, or captain, of the American team, which includes Sean Beighton, Philip Tilker and Darren Lehto, all of Seattle, and alternate Greg Persinger of Anchorage. Beighton was raised in Edmonds and is a 2007 graduate of Kamiak High School.
Clark, Beighton, Tilker and Lehto represent Seattle’s Granite Curling Club.
The Americans returned to action on Sunday with matches against Japan and Switzerland. Clark and his teammates are trying to win the first American medal at the world championships since 2007, when the Americans finished third. The U.S. has not won a world men’s title since 1978.
