LONGVIEW — With its back against the wall and needing two wins to earn a title, the Edmonds Community College baseball team beat Lane Community College 9-2 and Bellevue College 7-6 to win the NWAACC championship on Monday.

In the first game, Mariner High School alum Jamie Umbinetti went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Tritons. Starting pitcher Zach Johnson backed the Edmonds offense with a strong game of his own, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out nine to earn the crucial victory.

In the championship contest, Tyler Baker broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to score Lake Stevens alum Keanu Puha.

After coming in as a defensive substitution in the seventh, Puha singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a ground out by Ryan Archibald.

Meadowdale alum and tournament MVP Chris Osborne went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Edmonds-Woodway alum Ryan Budnick went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Edmonds (39-8) offense.

Shorecrest alum DJ Oliver closed the door against the Bulldogs in the ninth to earn the save.

The tournament title is the seventh in Edmonds Community College history.
