RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks were willing to lose kicker Steven Hauschka, that became pretty evident when they let him become an unrestricted free agent rather re-sign him or use the franchise tag.
However, Hauschka will indeed be back in Seattle in 2013, having re-signed with the Seahawks on Friday.
Hauschka was not immediately re-signed by Seattle or any other team in free agency. Last month, the Seahawks signed Carson Wiggs, who spent training camp in Seattle last year, presumably as insurance in case they could not reach a deal with Hauschka.
Hauschka already has beaten out Wiggs for the placekicking job once. That would seem to give Hauschka the inside track on the position, but Seattle always could add a rookie following the NFL draft as well.
Hauschka, who the Seahawks claimed off waivers just before the start of the 2011 season, has made 49 of 57 field goals and has a long of 52 yards in two seasons with Seattle. He als has kicked 80 of 82 extra points.
He injured his calf in Seattle’s playoff win over Washington and missed the playoff game in Atlanta.
