If you’re lucky enough to own a 2017 Lexus GX 460 4×4 Luxury SUV – you’re lucky enough.

The GX 460 is a full-capability luxury SUV that’s as at home on a trail as it is in the city or suburbs. Although my bet is on the pavement for this ultimate Christmas present that comes with third-row seating and the capability to seat seven passengers in a cocoon of comfort.

The top-of-the-line GX 460 now comes with second-row captain’s chairs, heated and ventilated front seats, advanced dynamic control systems and an available Sport Design Package, which, of course, my tester included.

Comfort, easy maneuverability and Lexus quiet and comfort make the GX 460 ideal at performing family duties during the week, and then easily stepping into an active, demanding 4×4 environment on the weekend.

GX 460 is powered by a 301-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 that issues 329 lb.-ft. of peak torque. Combine that with 6,500-lb. towing capacity, and you’ve got an ideal boat hauler. Making towing easier is trailer sway control, a function of the vehicle stability control that enhances straight-line tracking.

The GX 460 seats up to seven adults and drinks a little fuel, garnering a combined 16 miles per gallon in combined city/highway driving as rated by the EPA.

On a recent sales call to Mount Vernon, this Lexus virtually glided up I-5 through one of the season’s worthy rain and wind storms without so much as a flinch. One of its secrets for on-road smoothness is an adaptive variable suspension with electronically controlled dampers that adjust to road surface conditions. The driver can tailor ride and handling characteristics by selecting from Normal, Sport or Comfort modes.

My tester came with three optional packages including the previously mentioned “Sport Design” ($1,625) that adds 18-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, unique lower grille surround, chrome rear valance and chrome exhaust tips.

A dual-screen rear entertainment system ($1,970) built into the back of the front seats provides the kiddies with audio, video and HDMI inputs, a 12V outlet and wireless headphones.

Other standard features include a navigation system with eight-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, power/tilt/slide moon roof, leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front and the previously mentioned second-row captain’s chair seats, along with a third -row bench that folds flat when needed to expand cargo space.

And, finally, a “Driver Support Package” ($4,140) puts the GX 460 over the top. The goodie bag adds a17-speaker Mark Levinson premium surround-sound audio system with 330-watts, pre-collision system with driver-attention monitor, dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure alert, intelligent high-beam headlamps, wide view front and side monitor and CRAWL control inspire delight.

If you’ve been a good little boy or girl this year, take a chance and add the GX 460 to your list. If Santa’s in a good mood, he might deliver one with a big, red bow on top!
