SNOHOMISH — The city has selected the company to finish the last link of the Centennial Trail.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the City Council unanimously agreed to a contract for Strider Construction Co. of Bellingham to complete a two-thirds of a mile gap.
The $832,824 bid was the lowest of four bids the city received. The work consists of building a 12-foot wide asphalt trail from Bowen Avenue to Pine Street, a parking lot at the Senior Center and an information kiosk among other things.
Construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 15 and is expected last three months.
Strider is the same company that is working on the trail at two other spots near Arlington. The Snohomish portion of the project is being paid by federal funds.
The trail is considered the county’s largest park and officially opened in 1989, the state’s centennial year. It follows an abandoned railroad grade that was laid in the late 1800s.
When completed this year, the trail will run continuously from the Snohomish River to the Skagit County line.
