EVERETT — A man accused of stabbing his parents and setting the family home on fire was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and arson.
Zachary R. Konicke, 29, was being held in the Snohomish County Jail on $1 million bail. Prosecutors filed charges in Everett District Court. They have two weeks to refile in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Konicke is accused of stabbing his parents Jan. 14. He also allegedly lit their Machias-area home on fire.
His father survived the attack. Konicke’s mother, 58, is presumed dead. A woman’s body was found in the burned-out house and the victim had injuries consistent with a knife attack, according to a police affidavit.
Relatives said Konicke regularly used drugs, including hallucinogenic mushrooms and ecstasy. He was voluntarily admitted to a King County hospital Jan. 12 after shaving off his body hair and dousing himself in gasoline, police were told.
