If we’re being honest here, we all know someone who always has the perfect beard. It’s thick and carries with it a luster that could blind the heavens, not to mention having the attention of the room upon entry.

Now we’re not not going to pretend all of this comes from good beard oil, you need a good grooming routine all around. What we are saying is that routine would be incomplete without a high quality beard oil.

We’ll be digging into the details of what might differentiate a beard oil’s quality, but for a quick rundown it’s exactly what you’d expect: high quality, natural ingredients, and that’s exactly what Mengine Oil is all about.

Many brands do claim they’re 100% natural, when in reality they’re making use of synthetic scents which sure, only take up about 2% of the products formula, but if you want your beard to be the best then that’s exactly what you’ve got to give it, 100% natural not 98%.

In terms of quality, it’s all about where and how it’s grown. It’s not exactly common knowledge but everything from the nutrients of the soil to the altitude of the plantation can have huge effects on the chemical makeup of the end product. Mengine Oil has taken this into account, standardizing the ingredients used in their formula based on chemical makeup, making for an incredibly consistent and reliable product.

If you can’t tell already, we really like Mengine Oil. There’s a clear prioritization of quality here, and you can tell they’ve really thought everything through. We can’t recommend them enough, but let’s break things down and look at why this is.

Mengine Oil Ingredients Breakdown

Cedar

Cedarwood oil has been used in hair products for a long time, and the clinical literature supports this. In a study including 84 alopecia patients over seven months, it was found that Cedar helped the patients with hair regrowth.

The exact mechanisms at play here aren’t 100% understood, with some claiming cedarwood is able to increase blood flow to the hair follicles, improving the absorption of nutrients by hair roots. Others state it’s Cedarwoods balancing of the pH on skin that strengthens hair. We’d need dedicated testing to determine which of these is dominant, but it’s likely a combination of both of these effects that make Cedarwood such an effective addition to hair treatment products. The results are clear either way, Cedarwood oil is highly effective for hair growth.

Lavender

We’re all familiar with the alluring scent of lavender, whether from your mothers diffuser or your girlfriend’s shower gel; it’s a popular smell for a reason – This aromatic flower is both pleasant and calming in its scent. Its use in Mengine oil isn’t for its scent however, as the prevailing smell is certainly the Cedar content. Instead Lavender is included mainly for its antibacterial activity which not only keeps your skin and beard clean and hygienic, but directly protects your beard hair, keeping it free of bacteria that structurally weaken your hairs at the base.

Menthol

When it comes to stimulating growth, it’s one of the most popular reasons people start using beard oils. There’s nothing more sought after than a thick, healthy growing beard, and if you agree then there’s one ingredient you’ll be wanting more than any others, and that’s menthol from peppermint oil. Not many people know this, but hair growth occurs in stages, and the first stage (known as the anagen stage) is where hair grows the fastest. Menthol from peppermint oil was found to induce a rapid anagen stage, suggesting it’s use for hair growth.

Rosemary

Where menthol may be the number one ingredient for hair growth, the second is no doubt rosemary. The reason isn’t that it’s less effective, merely that it’s less consistent. There’s 24 known flavonoids present in Rosemary, in different balances depending on how the plant was grown, and the majority of them do nothing for hair growth. This is where Mengine oil have set themselves apart from the crowd as they’ve standardized the rosemary that they use in the product to contain high concentrations of the flavonoids that aid in hair growth, ensuring the consistency of their product.

With the right balance of flavonoids, rosemary has been clinically observed to be very effective for hair growth, making it a great inclusion in what is shaping up to be a fantastic formula.

Thymol

You can’t have rosemary without thyme, and as the familiar name suggests, Thymol is a highly abundant active ingredient that makes up the majority of Thyme’s chemical composition. Thyme has long been thought of as a medicinal plant and has been effectively used as a therapeutic treatment for several ailments.

One of the most common uses of Thymol is as a treatment for ACNE. If you weren’t aware, acne is caused by an infection inside the hair follicle, and Thymol seems to be the perfect counter for it. Clinical trials show it penetrates the hair follicle slowly and consistently, and it’s here where its antibacterial effects really take place. This tackles the infection directly without affecting the skin of hair’s natural pH level, also avoiding altering the healthy skin microbiota.

You’re probably thinking “yeah but I don’t have acne”, but this treatment keeps your skin and facial hair healthy and hygienic, ACNE is just a good example of how this can prevent and tackle infections as a whole.

Argan

So far whilst breaking down these ingredients we’ve covered everything from scent, hygiene, and even hair growth. Argan is where we finally break ground into conditioning, one of the most important aspects of beard oil. When it comes to conditioning, there’s two kings: Agran oil and Coconut oil. We won’t go too far into it but the basic way it goes is that coconut oil can help to repair hair but is heavy and difficult to get out, whereas argan oil softens and strengthens the hair whilst being much lighter and avoids a greasy look.

If we look at the ingredients in Mengine oil, it becomes clear why they’ve chosen Argan oil. It’s already got plenty of protection with its range of ingredients, so the benefits of argan oil are definitely the best choice. It shows how carefully they must have thought about their formula, ensuring all bases are covered in the most efficient manner possible.

Customer Reviews

Despite being new to the market, Mengine oil has managed to make a great impression on its customers so far. Let’s have a look at what some people had to say:

Tracy, 34, USA:

This oil is perfect for my husband! I used to hate his beard, but now it’s so soft and thick I love running my hands through it!

Drew, 25, USA:

Really good quality beard oil. The scent is exactly what you’re looking for in beard oil, providing a subtle and pleasant smell that lasts. It also doesn’t weigh my beard down, which can be quite an issue given its length lol. I highly recommend it.

How To Use

Using beard oil isn’t rocket science, but it’s better to have a structured approach than just winging it. Let’s break it down in simple steps:

How long is your beard?

When it comes to how much you need, it’s all about the length of your beard. The more hair you have, the more oil you’ll need. If you’re unsure, try three small drops and see how that goes. Less is more when you’re starting out, and as you get used to it you’ll get a good idea of how much you need

Apply to the skin

Start by applying the desired amount to your palms. Rubbing your hands together helps ensure an even coating once you start applying to the face. Once you’re done, start rubbing the oil into the skin to ensure your roots and skin are properly hydrated.

Apply to the beard

Start applying directly onto the beard. We find it’s best to start at the sides and work our way down, but really it’s not going to make much of a difference and you’ll find a way that works for you. Something to keep in mind is to not forget your neck and any spots you typically shave off. This will reduce risk of infection and ensure healthy and happy skin.

Finish with a comb

It’s important you do this now even if you plan on using a balm for styling or not, as it’s essential to evenly distribute the product across the beard. If you skip this step and just straight to balm, you could end up with patches of itchy and hard hair, and be susceptible to infection.

MengineOil Review Conclusion

Mengine Oil has really impressed us, and we hope we’ve been able to show exactly why that is. The thing with beard oils is there’s so many brands that just throw a couple of ingredients in haphazardly, without much thought behind the actual science at hand. This is what sets Mengine Oil apart, as you’ll find products out there with similar ingredients but what they lack is the commitment. Take Rosemary as an example, which is genuinely a pretty common ingredient. However, as we stated previously, there’s 24 flavonoids in Rosemary and the majority of them have no effect on hair whatsoever. Without standardizing these flavonoids, you could end up with a mostly ineffective product, a lot of the time. Recognising this, Mengine Oil have decided to implement a stricter system and have a much better product for it.

We really can’t recommend it enough, but that’s enough from us, check it out yourself and let us know what you think!
